The Diver Who Recorded the Black Fish: David Jara Breaks His Silence

Recently, social media has been abuzz with the astonishing discovery of a deep-sea fish near the surface, recorded by diver David Jara. The mysterious creature, dubbed the “black fish,” intrigued marine enthusiasts and scientists alike. Now, Jara has stepped forward to address some of the public’s questions, revealing previously unseen footage of the remarkable encounter.

Clarifications from the Diver

One of the key points Jara emphasized was the actual size of the abyssal fish. Contrary to exaggerated speculations, the fish measured no more than six centimetres in length. Furthermore, he debunked claims of aggressive behavior, explaining that the fish appeared more disoriented than threatening.

Jara also confirmed that the specimen was a female. In many deep-sea anglerfish species, males are significantly smaller, usually around two to three centimetres, and lack the distinctive bioluminescent antenna seen on females. This characteristic feature helps them lure prey in the dark depths of the ocean.

Why Was the Fish Near the Surface?

The sighting of such a creature so far from its natural abyssal habitat remains a topic of speculation. Scientists have proposed several hypotheses to explain its unexpected presence near the surface:

  1. Illness: The fish may have been sick, causing it to lose control and drift upward.
  2. Ocean Currents: A strong upward current could have carried the fish away from its deep-sea home.
  3. Predator Escape: The fish might have been fleeing from a predator and inadvertently reached shallower waters.

While the exact reason remains unknown, such events offer a rare glimpse into the hidden world of deep-sea organisms.

The Fate of the “Devil Black”

Unfortunately, the black fish did not survive. Its body was donated to the Museum of Nature and Archaeology of Tenerife, where experts will study it to gain further insights into its species and deep-sea life. This contribution to science will help broaden our understanding of the mysterious creatures that dwell in the ocean’s depths.

Acknowledgment from David Jara

Jara expressed his gratitude for the support he received from the marine conservation organization Vida Marina. Their assistance was invaluable in ensuring that the discovery was properly documented and shared with the world.

This encounter serves as a reminder of how little we truly know about the deep ocean and its inhabitants. Thanks to explorers like Jara, we continue to uncover the secrets of the abyss, one remarkable discovery at a time.
